Durafly Das Ugly Stik Maiden Flight – Review Part 2

Here’s the second part of the review of the Durafly Das Ugly Stik, maiden flight.

Overall, I think Hobbyking hit it out of the park with this one: it came very well packaged, putting it together was a breeze and the maiden flight was uneventful. The plane flew like it was on rails with the recommended battery, the “standard” 2,200 3S lipo. I installed a DR4-II receiver and paired it up with my FrSky Taranis. I decided to run full rates, but I added 50% expo to the ailerons and elevator, which is my personal preference.

The main feature or gimmick of this model is the mockup engine up front. Yes, it seems like this foamy has a glow engine, but upon further inspection you realize that the engine is just a dummy and that there is a brushless motor behind the firewall. I really didn’t pay attention to anouncement videos and I thought that the engine was made out of foam, but it is pretty hefty. Not sure if its the wisest to carry all that dead weight upfront, but it sure looks cool!
